As the world celebrated the International Menstrual Hygiene Day, 'Pen ur period Story' to as-Urmila Chanam, menstrual hygiene activist hailing from Manipur in a special feature on Radio Active CR 90.4MHz in Bengaluru said, 'I see the role of boys and men as huge because when we talk about bringing social development, we cannot have an individual approach and only a family approach will work out.
And a family essentially means boys and men' .
She added, 'If boys and men are a part of our(girls and women) problems, they should be a part of our solutions too!' .
Breaking the Silence Campaign is all set to begin its many activities for 2016 and will run for six months till the end of November ranging from village level trainings, house-to-house visits to sensitize people on the need and way to achieve menstrual hygiene; the campaign is also holding women support group meetings at city level and a story competition titled semble girls and women to share their stories, extend help to each other and shed inhibition on periods.
Urmila will be working in remote Uttar Pradesh and all hill districts of Manipur in the next few months.
