Churachandpur, November 26 2016:
Two girls in their teens today escaped a suspected kidnap bid by jumping off a diesel auto, our correspondent reports.
Niengngaiching alias Tingcha (17), d/o Khailun of Hqs Belam Veng, a student of Young Pillar College and her friend Vahneilhing (16), d/o (L) Seikholun of Hqs Belam Veng, a standard IX student of Vimala Raina High School reportedly boarded a diesel auto which was supposed to take them to Hqs Veng but, as the auto took a different direction the girls asked the driver to stop.
The driver however allegedly paid no heed to their request.
As the auto did not stop, the girls jumped off from the moving vehicle at New Lamka area.
The girls alerted passers-by who chased the auto and apprehended the driver.
The driver, identified as Zeptha Famhoite, 22, of Saikot village, was later handed over to the police.
It may be noted that on October 13, three minor girls made a similar escape after the auto driver allegedly took a wrong turn.
The police have since took photos of all the auto drivers registered with different auto associations in the district in an attempt to identify the culprit.
