Thangjam asteroid

Imphal, April 26 2017:
For the first time in the history of Manipur, an asteroid has been named as 'Thangjam' after a Manipuri Scientist Guneshwar Thangjam, by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) as a sign of respect for his honourable work.
Guneshwar Thangjam, bom in 1985, is a researcher at the Max-Planck Institute (Gottingen) performing spectral analyses of Vesta's compositional heterogeneity using Dawn Spacecraft data.
The said Asteroid was previously known as '1981 E FI4' before it was renamed 'Thangjam' .
