A media sensitization programme on vector borne diseases and ways to prevent these diseases, was held at State Malaria Office, Lamphelpat, under the aegis of Manipur State Vector Borne DiseaseControl Society, today.
Speaking at the event, State Malaria Officer Th Surchandra stressed on the role of media persons in spreading awareness about vector borne diseases and the steps take up by the Govt to combat these diseases.
He also explained about the importance of eliminating the presence of stagnant water bodies so as to reduce mosquito population.
Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme (NVBDCP) biologist T Kamina said that in 2005, global funds were sanctioned to Manipur and Intensified Malaria Control Programme was implemented.
By 2014, there were minimal case of malaria in the State, Kamina added and informed that Malaria Elimination Programme was implemented in the State from 2016, with the aim of total eradication of malaria from the State by 2013 .
