Vegetable markets raided; wild animals illegally sold

Senapati, November 24 2016:
A team of Senapati District Police led by SP Kabib K, raided vegetable markets at Senapati yesterday and seized large quantity of wild animal meats, PFA Manipur informed.
People For Animal Manipur informed the Senapati police of the illegal sale of wild animal meats at Senapati vegetable markets.
Three carcass of barking deer (including a head and a limb), one Indian Porcupine, one Himalayan Civet cat, three flying squirrels and three Khaleej Pheasants.
While most hunters managed to flee from the market, the police team apprehended three meat trader, all of whom were woman.
Sarita (53) of Viewland, Rani (53) of Makeng Chagingba and Hana (56) of Ngaihang village were held along with three carcasses of Pheasants.
The case has been handed over to Rajesh KM IFS, DFO, Senapati.
Investigations into the illegal sale of wild animal meat in the district has been commenced by the department concerned.
The carcasses would be disposed off with the permission of Court.
Hunting and trading of wild animal is an offence under WLPA and punishable, the PFA informed.
SP and DFO of Senapati district has appealed to all the people to stop hunting and trading of wild animals.
