In connection with the death anniversary of BJP founder member Shyama Prasad Mukherjee which is observed as Balidan Diwas, Chief Minister N Biren led in conducting a tree plantation drive at BJP's office in Nityaipat Chuthek on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM informed that efforts are being made to spread the spirit of communality and togetherness.
In this regard, Go to Village and Go to Hills are implemented for uniform progress and development.
Additionally, a joint resolution had been taken up on War on Drugs.
Museums catering to different communities have been set up to safeguard their respective identities, apart from taking up policy programmes to generate employment opportunities.
Remembering BJP founder member Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Biren said that the party's leader stood for 'one nation' and was against separate flags or any separatist agenda.
Thus, in commemoration of Balidan Diwas, a tree plantation drive has been launched which will continue to till July 6 the birth anniversary of the BJP founder, during which around 1 lakh trees will be planted in both the hills and the valley.
He then urged the party workers to take part in the drive.
The observance was also attended by Works minister Th Biswajit, Education minister S Rajen, CAF&PD minister Th Satyabrata, Rajya Sabha MP Sanajaoba Leishemba, party vice presidents, general secretaries and Morcha members.
As part of the observance, floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.
Later, BJP Manipur VP N Nimbus, ST Morcha president Lanzagai Mani Kamei, Kabui Mothers' Association president Kamei Tongpi and Zeliangrong Union leaders planted tree saplings in and around Rani Gaidinliu Park in Chingmeirong.
The death anniversary was also observed in Sekmai, Kakching, Hiyanglam and Wabagai assembly constituency under the initiatives of the party's district level committees and MLAs.
