JAC demands stringent punishment of arrested culprits

JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Henthoi Devi and local meira paibis staged a sit-in protest at Langathel Mamang Leikai community hall calling for stringent punishment against those booked in connection with the suspicious death of a young married woman on May 3 .
The deceased woman, Sagolsem (ningol) Yumnam (ongbi) Henthoi Devi was the spouse of Yumnam Sadananda of Langmeidong Makha Maning Leikai and the daughter of (L) Sagolsem Sobha from Langathel Mamang Leikai, Thoubal district.
Speaking on the sideline of the protest, Sagolsem (O) Mande Devi, secretary, Langathel Mamang Leikai Meira Paibi strongly condemned the suspicious death of Henthoi and called for life imprisonment of the four persons arrested in this connection.
She cautioned that the public of Langathel will launch a series of intense agitation with the cooperation of State womens' organisations if the culprits are allowed to go scot-free.
Moirangthem Tomba, secretary, JAC Against the Brutal killing of Henthoi Devi alleged that the death of Henthoi Devi was planned by the four arrested persons and demanded capital punishment for the culprits.
He also stressed on the disparity in the frequency of crimes committed against women and children and the lack of befitting punishment doled out to the perpetrators.
Further he appealed to the relevant authority to submit the necessary chargesheet so the guilty persons can be penalized appropriately.
The protestors held placards with slogans of "We condemn violence against women and children" and "Punish the guilty" among others.
