Imphal, February 22 2018:
Secretary of Lamjingba Artist Association, Laishram Boy, has urged the Manipur State Kala Academy to convert its Shumang Leela competition into a festival, alleging that the competition will start creating animosity between the various Leelaparties.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Boy informed that a male only Shumang Leela competition was organised from, February 5 to February 17 under the aegis of Manipur State Kala Academy.
He said that the association has no ill feelings against the organiser for failing to secure any top spots, but desires the competition to be held under a proper set of rules and regulations with the participants following the said rules.
This year's Shumang Leela competition seemed biased, he claimed.
Pointing out that the artistes of all the 12 Leela parties which participated in the competition, were extremely talented, the secretary said that the competition seemed to lack transparency.
He reasoned that the competition is creating animosity among the Leela parties and urged the authority concerned to organise a festival instead of a competition, similar to the past.
He also added that the Leela parties have decided to submit an appeal to the Manipur State Shumang Leela Council and Manipur State Kala Academy to organise a festival instead of a competition as the condition has become such that the Leela party whose Shumang Leela failed to secure the tops spots are not finding any audience' market.
Claiming that the lack of transparency in competition could be due to the inexperienced jury, the secretary further urged those concerned to appoint well experienced jury in the future.
