Chief Minister of Manipur has announced a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh to MC Mary Kom on her winning the Women World Boxing Championship for the fifth time.
Secretary to Chief Minister, Sumant Singh stated in a press release that Mary Kom, a Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardee, achieved the rare feat of winning fifth consecutive work boxing title, when she defeated Dta Seluta of Romania on September 18, 2010, during the Sixth World Women Boxing Championship held at Barbados, Bridgetwon.
Daughter of Manipur and sportsperson par excellence, Ms Mary Kom, has emerged as an epitome of inspiration and motivation of our youth today.
Whole Manipur celebrates her achievement with in-describable joy.
The cash prize of Rs 10 lakh announced herewith is in recognition of her historic achievement.
Besides, Chief Minister, on September 19, 2010, also wrote a letter to Ms Mary Kom to congratulate her for defending the world title for the nation.
The world champion was described as 'Pride of the Country and the State' in the letter.
