Imphal, August 19 2017:
The Tribal Committee Under 11188 Hilghat Zilla Parishad, Jiribam district, has urged the authority concerned to ensure the reservation of the Panchayati Raj Election 2017 on a rotation basis .
Speaking to media person at Manipur Press Club today, the advisor of the committee, Tahemang Panmei, explained that the first Zilla Parishad election was held in Manipur in the year 1997 and the reservation for 18 Hilghat Zilla Parishad was in the general category.
The reservation was ST in 2002, General Women in 2007 and General in the year 2012 .
He expressed disappointment at the reservation of this year's Zilla Parishad election for 18 Hilghat Zilla parishad in General Women .
Tahemang Panmei pointed out that the lottery for the Panchayati Raj Election 2017 was organised at Panchayat Bhawan on July 24 as per an order issued by the Government.
He claimed that a slide was even presented which showed that the reservation quota for 18 Hilghat ZP is ST .
However, some parties protested the decision and the State Government deferred the lottery results and later issued an order on July 26 which changed the reservation to General Women .
Tahelang appealed to the State Government to revert the reservation to the original, increase the number of Zilla Parishad in Jiribam district and specify the exact number of Zilla Prishad in the district .
Intense agitation will be taken up if the authority concerned fails to heed the appeal of the people, he added.
