Kangpokpi, February 19 2019:
In a rather unfortunate incident, a girl from Chehlep village in Tengnoupal district came into contact with an unfenced transformer near her house and has been advised by doctors for amputation tomorrow due to the injuries resulting from the electric shock.
Two year old Tinchonghoi Mate, daughter of a daily wage earner Khaikholen Mate of Chehlep village will lose her right hand owing to the failure of the concerned Department in maintaining safety measures while installing transformers.
There is also another possibility that she could lose both her hands if the burn condition is beyond curable with the current treatment at RIMS Hospital Imphal.
The poor girl came into contact with the transformer while she was playing near her house where the transformer has been installed.
The parents along with the locals rushed her to Jivan Hospital and was later referred to RIMS hospital considering her grave injuries.
She is recuperating from her injuries but unfortunately, the doctor advised her to undergo amputation surgery tomorrow.
Meanwhile, days after the incident, the department concerned has not initiated any enquiry about the child nor the condition of the family who are surviving hand to mouth, lamented M Samuel Haokip, general secretary, KSO Tengnoupal.
The student body also expressed annoyed over the electricity department's failure to maintain safety measure while installing electrical transformers within Tengnoupal block resulting in several electrocution cases.
He stated that there has been accidents of electric shock attributed to the negligence of concerned department while adding that the transformer installed near the victim's house has been erected without a fence for a long time which clearly exhibits a case of negligence on the part of the concerned authority in following safety measures.
KSO Tengnoupal has urged the concerned department to look into the matter at the earliest and warned to launch various forms of agitation if the authorities concerned fail to intervene.
