Imphal, October 17 2009:
In an attempt to produce more dancers and invent new dance forms, NACHOM, Canchipur has staged a premier show on 'Dance for Peace,' a contemporary dance, today at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy here.
The occasion was graced by Director of JNM Dance Academy, Dilip Mayengbam; president of Forum for Laboratory Theatre, Manipur, Prof Lokendra Arambam; and president of NACHOM (Arts for Contemporary Dance), Bishnupur, Prof M Akshyakumar as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Dilip Mayengbam said the sentiment should be touched to conceive a new dance form.
The sentiment should find its roots in the heart then a new, creative and significant dance form will emerge.
He said a new dance form can be devised out of the present state of affairs.
He added that new dance form should not be formulated by altering the traditional dance.
Prof Akshyakumar said, as traditional dances cannot be performed with some additional or lesser artists, the need to modify them has arisen.
This gave the rise of contemporary dance wherein slight change has been made to accommodate more artists while performing the dances.
Prof Lokendra Arambam observed that we cannot deny the new generation.
They are innovating new things and ideas.
They need support and encouragement.
A contemporary dance, 'dance for peace,' innovated by choreographer and artistic director NK Surjit (Bonbon) was showcased.
The music for the dance was composed by Ranbir Thouna.
Six male dancers, five female dancers and three child artists have performed the dance.
