Workshop cum hands-on training inaugurated

A 4- day National Workshop cum Hands-on Training on 'Next Generation Sequencing : Its Application in Genomics of Banana and Banana Viruses' was inaugurated today at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat .
The workshop is jointly organized by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre and Mizoram University in collaboration with QTLomics Technologies, Bangalore, informed a statement .
Coordinators Drs SK Sharma, Th Robert Singh, SS Roy briefed about the workshop and topics to be covered during next four days .
The workshop aims to provide a comprehensive overview of genomics of banana and viruses infecting banana with emphasis on hands on training on identification of banana and its genome classification .
In addition, training on detection, identification and genomics of viruses infecting banana particularly banana streak viruses and banana bunchy top virus will be provided.
Next generation sequencing (NGS) has emerged as one of the most powerful tools in high-throughput genetic analysis in the recent years .
NGS technologies can be used in the deep understanding of genomics of banana and its viruses.
The workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of application of NGS and hands-on training on its use on various platforms.
A total of 38 researchers are participating in this workshop where several lectures and hands-on training from various experts will be delivered during this workshop.
