1 AR man killed, 4 hurt in Ukhrul IED attack

Imphal, June 15 2017:
One personnel of 17 Assam Rifles was killed while four others sustained injuries in a powerful IED blast triggered by suspected underground militants at Kasung village under Chassad police station, Ukhrul district today noon.
The deceased AR personnel has been identified as Havaldar Luhi Gogoi (50) of Avipura Sivasagar, Assam and the injured personnel have been identified as Rifleman Amit Kumar (27) of Hussenpur village, Uttar Pradesh; Rifleman Thanglensho; Rifleman Nicky Chhetri (32) of Jhalpara Cantt East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya and Rifleman Y Zungkum (28) of Kiphere district, Nagaland.
According to reports, a team of 17 AR was on ROP duty when a powerful IED planted along the roadside at Kasung village went off injuring five of them.
They were evacuated to Leimakhong military hospital using an army helicopter for treatment.
Of the five injured personnel, Havaldar Luhi Gogoi succumbed to the injuries at the hospital.
Soon after the blast, a combined team of AR and State police rushed to the spot and conducted a massive search operation in and around the area.
There was no report of any arrest made in the search operation.
A case has been registered in the police station concerned in connection with the incident, the reports said.
Assam Rifles PRO in a statement said that the four other injured personnel are stable.
