Jessami a vital link of Manipur and Nagaland: Governor Dr Ashwani Kumar

Governor Dr Ashwani Kumar and his wife yesterday was given a rousing reception at Jessami Public Ground in Ukhrul district.
Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Preshaw Shimray; Dr SK Chourasia, DC of Ukhrul and other officials were included in the entourage of the Governor to the hilly district along the Manipur and Nagaland border.
The border village came alive with full force as the Governor and his team stepped their foot into the village.
Anxious villagers welcomed the first citizen of the State with traditional fervour.
Womenfolk of the village welcomed the Governor with a lively traditional dance while enthusiastic students braved the scorching heat to greet the Governor.
Addressing the enthusiast gatherings, Governor Dr Ahswani Kumar said that Jessami is a vital link between Manipur and Nagaland while stressing on the need to maintain peace and tranquillity in the area.
The Governor urged the people to avoid provocative acts that can incite tension.
Acknowledging the hard work of the villagers, the first citizen of the State also insisted the people to choose right leader for good governance.
He assured the villagers that their grievances and issues would be taken up at his personal level.
Speaking at the occasion, the village chairman recalled that Sorabung and Jessami villages originally belonged to Khajah Chakheshang tribe.
He mentioned that in 2011, Jessami Block was bifurcated from Chingai Block although the pace of development is still slow.
He pointed out that there is not a single Govt employee from the village.
The chief also submitted a memorandum to the Governor demanding recognition of Chakheshang tribe in Manipur and setting up of a Bank and JNV at the border village, Jessami.
Deputy Speaker, Preshaw Shimray has given an assurance to the villagers that their grievances be looked into.
Later around 3.30 pm, the State security led by SP Kabib escorted the Governor till Lanye Bridge in Nagaland for his maiden visit to Phek, Nagaland.
The Governor had travelled by road all the way from Imphal to Nagaland via Ukhrul and Jessami.
