Imphal, August 13 2015:
Taking strong exception to the State Government's failure to meet the deadline it set regarding introduction of a new Bill for protection of indigenous people, JCILPS has announced public curfew from 4 am to 4 pm tomorrow.
Media persons including Editors, reporters, staff of newspaper firms and news channels, doctors, nurses, medical staff, patients/sick people, religious functions and essential services like water supply and electricity would not be covered by the public curfew and no protester should pose any hurdle to their movement, said a press release issued by JCILPS assistant media coordinator Md Kheirudin Shah Moijinmayum.
JCILPS called upon all the people of Manipur to stage sit-in-protests at their respective localities from 10 am to 3 pm of August 15 followed by formation of human chains from 3 pm to 4 pm and torch rallies starting from 7 pm.
Meanwhile, JCILPS Students' Wing has re-affirmed its decision to boycott the upcoming Independence Day celebration.
Both JCILPS and its students' wing have accused the State Government of paying no regard to the resolutions adopted at the people's convention held at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen on July 23 .
The State Government is more concerned about what New Delhi would say to them rather than taking any sincere step to protect the indigenous people from the onslaught of incessant influx, said students' wing convenor Oinam Nandababu.
Although JCILPS has held two rounds of the meeting with the State Government, the Government could not give a concrete assurance to incorporate the five suggestions it made.
After reminding that the new Bill should be passed by August 15, JCILPS representatives walked out of the meeting hall.
As such, there is no point in participating in the upcoming Independence Day celebration, it asserted.
JCILPS also called upon all the people to boycott the Independence Day celebration completely.
"Our collective efforts should determine our own future", it added.
Nandababu maintained that the Indian Constitution is not something untouchable.
The Constitution has been amended many times before and it can be amended in future too, if necessary.
He appealed to all students of schools and colleges to stay away from the Independence Day celebration.
