Reason for earth fissure at Kangpokpi still remains obscure

Kangpokpi, June 11 2017:
Even after a week of the earth crack affecting a radius of 2.5 kms at Kangpokpi district on June 4, the reason for the natural phenomenon remains unclear.
Around 30 households of Kalikhola village, which is assumed to be the epicenter of the earth fissure have already been evacuated to the relief camp immediately set up by the district administration at Goma Devi High School, Toribari since June 5 while around 7 more houses from Makuli, the opposite neighbouring village of Kalikhola, were also evacuated to a temporary relief camp set up by the district administration at Makuli Primary School on June 9 afternoon.
Medical camp was also organized by CHC Kangpokpi under the direction of Kangpokpi Deputy Commissioner T Ranjit Singh, who is also the Chairman of District Health Society, Kangpokpi for the earth crack affected victims at the temporary relief camp at Goma Devi High School, Toribari.
The district administration, is constantly monitoring the situation in coordination with all line department/offices in the district owing to the movement of the fissure every day.
The district administration has already been able to draw the attention of experts and geologists from the National Disaster Management Authorities, New Delhi and Geological Survey of India to the earth crack.
Despite the intervention of many experts and geologists, the reason for the earth fissure at Kalikhola is yet to be fully understood.
The district administration has also clamped free movement of the people near the affected area under CrPC 144 .
Meanwhile, 38 Assam Rifles Kangpokpi Post provided much needed beds to the aged victims of the earth crack at the relief camp in Goma Devi High School, Toribari while fumigating the area with mosquito repellent to ensure the people in the relief camp are safe from the menace of dengue and malaria.
The Assam Rifles also assured the civil administration as well as the relief camp authorities that assistance will be provided anytime whenever asked.
The All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union also visited the temporary relief camp at Goma Devi High School, Toribari today and also met the relief committee and victims while providing essential commodities and financial assistance.
A popular local WhatsApp group GUDUP also visited the earth fissure at Kalikhola areas and conveyed its sincere sympathy to the affected victims from Kalikhola and Makuli.
PG Kipgen, leader of the group shared the suffering and grief of the affected.
