Imphal, December 08 2020:
The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Manipur State Branch has stated that there will be a cease work strike from 6 am to 6 pm on December 11 against the Central Government's gazette notification allowing Ayurveda post graduate students to perform surgery.
The IMA is against the gazette notification and demands its revocation, said a release of IMA Manipur State Branch.
Emergency services including casualty services, ICUs, in-patient care and COVID-19 related services, however will remain unaffected on December 11, the release said.
The recent notification by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) allows postgraduate students of Ayurveda to perform 39 general surgery procedures and 19 surgeries of eye, ears, nose and throat which are otherwise performed by well trained surgeons of modern medicine, the release said.
Such a move is a matter of grave concern for all as it involves safety of patients and can have deleterious effects in the long run, it continued.
The Indian Medical Association is not against Ayurveda but against unscientific mixing up of systems, said IMA which also added that such 'mixopathy' will destroy the purity of the systems which believe differently and practice differently.
