Association bats for saving Loktak lake & environment, urges people's support

Manipur Loumi Lup will organise apublic meeting cum rally in connection with various issues impacting the lives of the people and the environment on May 12 at Ithai Keithel, Kumbi Kendra at 1 pm.
A press release issued by general secretary of Manipur Loumi Lup appealed everyone to extend their support by participating at the meeting cum rally.
The meeting will discuss various life threatening problems and pressure the political leaders as well the authority concerned to take up remedial steps to save Loktak lake, to put an end to Loktak project and Ithai Barrage.
It would also press the authority concerned to clean Loktak and to destroy/remove 'Sugnu Hump'.
Regarding the rapid increase of deforestation at the hilly areas, the meeting will also pressure the authorities concerned to take remedial steps and to allow alternative system of farming and also to adopt agro-forestry, composite and plantation farming.
The meeting would also discuss to pressure to build dams at gorges and streams at the hill areas so that the flow of water is slowed down at the valley.
It also stated that the Lup would also press the authority concerned to take up micro, mini-micro hydel projects along with wind and solar power projects for the welfare of the people.
The Lup would also demand compensation for those victims whose lands were affected by the Loktak project and to demarcate Loktak lake.
The press statement further stated that the meeting would also discuss the importance of setting up an eco task force for ex-Servicemen and youth.
