Liver cancer patient operated successfully at RIMS

A liver cancer patient from Tamei, was successfully operated on at RIMS.
Speaking to media persons at the office of the Medical Superintendent, RIMS, yesterday, Associate Professor, Surgical Oncology, Dr Sapam Opendro Singh said that on June 1, one Disikambou (55) of Tamei, a liver cancer patient, was successfully operated on at RIMS.
He explained that Disikambou's ailment was a common type of cancer but difficult to detect in the early stage.
Dr Opendro continued that Disikambou's tumour was around 11-13 cm in size and explained that such liver cancer surgeries are performed only at some institutes across the country.
RIMS is ranked 28 in the country.
The operation is a huge achievement of the hospital, he added.
The whole operation took six hours and around 6 bottles of blood were transfused during the operation, he added.
As the patient is a PMJAY beneficiary, the cost of the operation was covered by the scheme, he said.
RIMS Medical Superintendent Professor Ch Arunkumar Singh who was present at the press meet said that PMJAY and CMHT schemes have provided many benefits to the poor people in the State.
The patient will fully recover within a week, he said.
RIMS Director Professor A Shanta was also present at the press meet.
