Imphal, February 06 2017:
A primary school established by the State Government in 2013 at Makeng Chonglou, a village located around 10 kilometres from Siakul sub divisional HQs under Khundrakpam A/C, has started teaching children from this year's academic session.
Makeng Chonglou Primary school was established as a part of the Government's aim to provide free and compulsory education to children.
Even though the village falls under Khundrakpam A/C, its distance from Saikul sub divisional HQs had posed some inconveniences to the Government's effort to provide free education to the children of the village.
The Government established the school in 2013 in order to address this issue and help the children of the village avail the Government's long term plans regarding education.
A school building was constructed under the SSA programme and the necessary furniture for the classrooms were provided except blackboards.
The school had not been able to function all these years because the two teachers provided by the Government for the school had been utilised elsewhere during that time.
Although the school finally began its session from January 11 this year with the arrival of the two teachers, the formal session for students of class one to five began from today.
The children of the village had to undertake a long journey everyday in order to attend two private schools which are situated very far from the village before the establishment of the primary school by the Government.
Now the children of the village can easily attend the primary school in their village as it has begun functioning properly.
