Social worker, free lance columnist and Chairman of Manipur Committee for Social Concerns (MCSC), RS Jassal has returned after attending a five day workshop at Geneva from January 27 to January 31.The workshop organised by Geneva Call, an international NGO, was held on the theme of Needs Assessment for Victims of landmines/IEDS.
Dr B Kurvey of IIP and EP from Nagpur, Ms Aneeza an expert from Handicap International, France and Ms Katherine from USA were among the others who attended the workshop, said RS Jassal in a statement today.
During the workshop, MCSC advocated assistance for IED blast victims in Manipur and the North East.
The discussion centred on how the victims were to be identified and the systems to provide them socio-economic support through the respective Governments and regional/international philanthropist organisations and NGOs.
The MCSC will shortly conduct a survey to initial mapping to a draw a comprehensive list of affected persons in the hill as well as valley.
