Imphal, May 03 2018:
Headmistress of Bhairodan Maxwell Hindi Primary School, Khwairakpam Sunita, who was arrested by City police on charge of destroying the fruit stalls present in front of the school, has been released and the following the release of the Headmistress, the school authority has demanded the OC of City police to apologize for the action at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the school's Management Committee local educationist Ch Chandramani said that the video clips of the arrest of the headmistress and social media posts regarding the incident has tarnished the reputation of Sunita, who also happens to be a National Awardee.
Demanding the OC of City police to apologise for wrongfully arresting the Headmistress, he added that the school authorities will send a written complaint to the President of the country.
On the other hand, Khwairakpam Sunita said that she has been watering the flowers and trees present at the school's eco-club as a daily routine.
As a routine, when she came to the school today and tried to water the plants, she noticed that a rope had been tied to the branch of one of the trees so as to support the fruit shops on the footpath (which were destroyed by JCIPLS volunteers yesterday) .
Fearing that the strain might break the branch, she cut the rope, the Headmistress said and claimed that another support rope was cut by a police personnel who was present at the area.
She conveyed that the makeshift fruit shops collapsed as a result and police arrested her for destroying the shops.
The Headmistress said that even when she narrated the story, the police did not pay any attention and led her to the police vehicle.
Stating that she was later released after an understanding was reached, Sunita said that arresting a teacher is akin to insulting the teacher community and warned that a written complaint would be sent to the President if the authority concerned fails to show proper respect to the teachers.
