UG killed in clash, 5 held

Security forces today killed a suspected cadre of the KCP (MC)- Lamyanba Khuman in an alleged encounter near the foothills of Motbung Khulleimon village under Sapermaina PS of Senapati district and recovered five sophisticated weapons with ammunitions.
The encounter between the UGs and a combined force of state police commandos and troops of 43 AR occurred around 12.30 pm at the village located six km on the southwest of Sapermaina PS.
Of the five arms recovered from the encounter site, there was one lethode gun, two AK-47 rifles, one AK-56 rifle and one M-16 rifle with several rounds of ammunition.
A Chinese made hand grenade with a detonator was also recovered, an official source said.
The identity of the slain man is yet to be confirmed but a highly reliable source said that he could be Naorem Kumar Singh (40) son of late Naorem Mangi of Nilakuthi.
The gun fight erupted when the combined team launched a search operation in the area acting on a tip off.
When they moved towards the foothills, some UGs opened fire on them to which they instantly retaliated.
In the ensuing gunfight the UG was shot dead.
He was hit by a bullet in his back.
A further search was conducted in the area.
But there were no reports of arrests or rounding up of persons.
In the meantime, five UGs of different outfits were nabbed by the AR in separate counter-insurgency operations today.
Two PREPAK activists were nabbed by troops of 23 and 28 AR in a joint operation in the Saogolband area today around 12.30 am.
They were Identified as Lukram Thomson alias Tamo alias Khuman (30) son of L Homen of Sagolband Lukram Leirak and Chabungbam Premijit alias Taton alias Naobi ( 40) son of Late Ch Manglem, of Mayaikoibi Chabungbam Leikai.
They were handed over to Singjamei PS, IGAR (S) said in a statement.
In yet another operation launched by troops of 23 AR and 12 MLi in Poubitek area today around 1.30 pm three UGs were apprehended.
They were Ravi Prakash (32) son of Kiran Kumar of Singjamei Makha Oinam Thingel of PREPAK, L Sheityadev Sharma (27) son of L Rolten Kumar of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai of KYKL and N Ingo (28) son of Late Danishok of Singjamei Waikhom Leikai, an UNLF cadre.
They were handed over to Mayang Imphal PS, the statement added.
