63rd Wildlife Week kicks off

The Rainforest Club Tamenglong and The Corbett Foundation in collaboration with the Forest Department, Tamenglong, kicked off the 63rd Wildlife Week well in advance today at Trinity Public School Tamenglong.
Theprogramme was organized well in advance so as not to collide with Gandhi Jayanti said the organizer of the awareness programme.
Sumanta Kandu, a Wildlife Biologist from The Corbett Foundation as a resource person sensitized the students on the use of plastic and its ill effects on human health, environment and the eco system.
Bishnupur
As a part of "Wild Life Week 2018" to be celebrated at global level from October 2 to 8, District Level Painting, Quiz and Debating competition has been kick started today at Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School for Bishnupur District organized by Bishnupur Forest Division.
In the painting competition held at division level on the theme "Celebrate the Rights of Wild Life" and organized by Bishnupur Forest Division, Govt of Manipur with the support of Toubul Youth Development Association (TYDA) Toubul, Global Science Club Khoujuman, Pole Star Guardian Association Thinungei, around 106 students from Class V to VIII took part in the competition while students from seven different schools who have studied at Class IX and X formed into 14 teams took part in the Quiz Competition on Wildlife.
A debating competition was also held on the topic "Keibul Lamjao National Park is a Boon or Bane to the People" for students who have studied from Class XI to XII.
The programme was attended by Divisional Forest Officer Bishnupur Debala Laiphrakpam, RO Bishnupur S Ratankumar, RO Moirang L Babuyai, Scientist Deer Specialist Dr Ksh Samungou Singh, Wild Life Warden K Jugeshwore Singh, Wild Life Warden RK Birjit Singh, Principal Royal Academy of Law I Jugeshwor Singh and Lecturer Moirang College N Sony as presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, DFO Bishnupur Debala Laiphrakpam expressed that the competition was held as a part of Wild Life Week to educate the young students on the importance of preserving wild animals and environment and their role for sustainable development.
