Mount Everest College celebrates Cultural Day

Mount Everest College, Senapati today celebrated its annual Cultural Day under the theme, "Retell to remember" at the College Auditorium.
Speaking on the occasion, Gonmei Meithuanlungpou, vice principal of the College stated that Cultural Day is observed every year with different themes.
"Folktales are the textbooks of the past as there was no hard copy/ textbooks/ digital copy like the present.
Folktales was one of the ways in which children were taught and told to entertain the children.
It is the sole responsibility of the elders and parents to tell folk stories to their children and grandchildren especially during the evening around the fire or bed time", he added.

He continued that the elders used folktales to educate children in an interesting way about the values of the society.
"It is the responsibility for the present generation to keep the tradition of telling folktales alive for the future generation", he added.
Showcasing the diverse cultures of the State, folk tales drama competition was also conducted during the event wherein "Kasung and Disunga" of Maram, "Proupouzei, the great warrior" of Poumai, "100 heads" of Liangmai, "Sandrembi Chaishra", "Kateine and Kajine" of Poumai, "Maitonphi and Shimreishang" of Tangkhul folktale, "Love story of Pou and Reine" of Poumai, "The wicked step mother" of Rongmei and "Loushingna Shamu faba" were displayed.
A traditional couple show showcasing the rich traditional attires of different communities of the State was the other highlight of the event.
