Imphal, November 30 2016:
The indefinite blockade being imposed by UNC on National Highways leading to Imphal is an outcome of Chief Minister O Ibobi's political opportunism, asserted BJP Manipur Pradesh election management committee convenor Th Chaoba.
He was speaking at the fifth death anniversary function of Ningthoujam Kero, father of BJP Manipur Pradesh economic cell convenor N Diten at Heirok Part I Laikol Ground today.
He lamented that the Congress Government is still unable to properly demarcate district boundaries and improve district administration even though it has been in power for the past 15 years.
Attempts by the State Government to declare Sadar Hills as a full fledged district at the time of election with the vested interests of scoring political mileage have created communal tension.
There was no harm in creating more districts for administrative convenience but the State Government's decision to declare Sadar Hills as a full fledged district at the time of election is ill-timed and it only invited indefinite economic blockade from the UNC.
The statement that Sadar Hills district might or might not be created in accordance to his wisdom was unbecoming of a Chief Minister, Chaoba remarked.
He also condemned the Chief Minister's assertion that the economic blockade was instigated by the Government of India and NSCN-IM.
Congress party is a party of drug smugglers.
Many innocent citizens were killed in fake encounters under the Congress rule, alleged Chaoba.
Acknowledging that many people might be suffering a lot on account of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, Chaoba called upon the people to bear with the inconveniences for sometime for all good initiatives entail certain negative aspects in the beginning.
He went to question the Congress party's protest against the demonetisation move.
Rather, they should be asking the Central Government to send adequate volumes of currency notes of smaller denominations.
Ningthoujam Diten, BJP chief spokesperson Prof S Tiken, vice-president M Hemanta and culture cell convenor Naba Volcano too spoke at the gathering.
