Governor, CM greet on Kut

Governor Gurbachan Jagat and Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh have greeted the people of Manipur on the auspicious occasion of Kut Festival, which will be celebrated tomorrow.
A post-harvest festival of Kuki-Chin-Mizo groups of people - Kut, is a thanks giving to the almighty for a bountiful harvest, said the Governor in his message addressed to the people of Manipur, especially the Kuki-Chin-Mizo brethren.
Conveying that festival symbolises compassion, gaeity and gratitude, he reminded that it provides a unique opportunity to people cutting across the barriers of case, creed and religion to make a sincere introspection of their own thoughts and value.
"I hope that Kut 2011 would spread the message of peace, harmony, friendship, compassion and forgiveness which help in strengthening the sense of oneness and the concept of peaceful co-existence among all the ethnic groups the age-old tradition of the people of Manipur," the Governor added.
In his message to the people, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh stated that apart from the festival being an occasion to thank the almighty for the bountiful harvest after a year long toil, the festival occupies a unique position not only among the Kuki-Chin-Mizo groups of people but also among other communities in the State.
He also conveyed hope that the festival will spread the message of peace, communal harmony, friendship and brotherhood amongst various communities living in the State.
"On this auspicious occasion, let us resolve our differences and come together and work unitedly for a peaceful and prosperous Manipur," exhorted the Chief Minister.
GOC 57 Mountain Division Maj Gen Binoy Poonnen also conveyed warm greetings to the people of Manipur on the auspicious occasion of Chavan Kut, to be celebrated tomorrow.
The GOC expressed hope that the festival would not only be a binding force to keep the people of Manipur closer but also a platform to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Kuki-Chin-Mizo people.
He further exuded confidence that the festival will enhance the spirit of unity and brotherhood among the people of Manipur.
