TG's Girl Rape Case :: Victim's statement taken for 5 whole hrs

Imphal, May 27 2013:
The statement of the Clas -XII student of TG Higher Secondary School who was allegedly raped by two persons in a restaurant at Changangei Uchekon along Imphal Airport road on October 20, 2012 last was taken today in camera proceeding at the Court of Session Judge of Manipur East, for 5 whole hours.
Meanwhile, the final hearing on the case of rape of a woman Umorak seller allegedly by four persons including two IRB personnel on March 22 last year at Keinou Awang Leikai area under Bishnupur Police Station would be conducted in the Court of the Session Judge, Manipur East tomorrow.
The statement of the victim was recorded in the chamber of M Manojkumar, Session Judge, Manipur East starting from 12 noon to 5:10 pm.
After the statement of the victim was taken, cross examination was also conducted till 6:25 pm.
However, since it was late and the health of the victim was deteriorating, the Judge decided to continue the cross examination on May 29 in the Court of the Session Judge of Manipur East.
The two accused rapists, namely, Yumnam William of Khagempalli Panthak, a driver in Manipur Police Commando and Tongam Tarun of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai, a Manipuri digital film actor, were also produced before the court today.
Interacting with media persons after the court proceeding, Ng Tejkumar, Special Prosecutor of the case, stated that the victim, while narrating the incident of the rape case, cried in front of the Judge and Counsel.
The charge sheet of the rape case was framed by the police and handed over to the court on December 2012.Since the charge sheet framed was that of rape, the case was referred to the Court of Session Judge, Imphal East on February 25 for further hearing.
The statement of the witnesses had already been taken from March 22 last, Tejkumar added.
He further informed that up till now, the statement of five witnesses have been recorded completed.
The witnesses whose statements have been taken are Nirmala, mother of the victim; Kiranmala, aunty of the victim; Bimolchand, owner of the restaurant where the girl was alleged raped, and one Premlata.
The Special Prosecutor stated that this particular rape case has been one of the fastest cases to be proceeded so far.
There are still 15 more witnesses whose statements are to be recorded.
Since it normally takes a week to take the statement of two witnesses, it is expected that the case would be finally solved within three months' time.
He also appealed to all the CSOs of the State to help in the speedy trial and solution of the case.
ON the other hand, the final hearing on the case of gang-rape of Jangthailu Kamei, a woman Umorak seller allegedly by four persons including two IRB personnel on March 22 last year at Keinou Awang Leikai area under Bishnupur Police Station is set to be held in the Court of the Session Judge, Manipur East tomorrow.
The four accused rapists in this case have been identified as Laikhuram Rojit Singh of Porompat, Chungkham Ibomcha of Thongju Boroi Makhong, Salam Bijen Singh of Uripok and Kshetrimayum Kennedy of Kongpal Chanam Leikai .
Among them, ChIbomcha and Ksh Kennedy are said to be IRB personnel.
