Imphal, July 26 2021:
People's Task Force for COVID-19 (PTFC) has stressed the need for reviewing the preventive and precautionary measures taken up by the government against Covid-19 pandemic, considering the rising numbers of positives cases in the state saying infectiveness of the containment measures is akin to the government fighting a losing battle.
Issuing a statement in this regard, PTFC said that the pandemic has been proven to be extremely difficult situation for all and as such, the government needs to take concrete steps to put an end to the pandemic and save precious human lives.
The Task Force has been supporting the government in the fight against the contagion by setting up Task Forces in various places and ensuring strict adherence to Covid-19 SOPs and protocols.
However, it seems the government is fighting a losing battle with the number of infection cases rising, not to mention of the involvement of "colourful politics".
The government needs to collaborate with local clubs, Meira Paibi associations and CSOs and practice sincere politics if it truly wants to take control of the pandemic.
"For this, strict quarantine measures for people entering the state via the airport or through Jiribam and Dima-pur; improvement of CHICs; increasing capacity of CCCs and segregating them from patients in CHICs; understanding the important role of Covid Task Forces and CSOs by the government and to work closely with them are essential", it asserted.
Meanwhile, the loopholes experienced during the total curfew and lockdown could be addressed by enforcing effective Covid testing and vaccination processes during the same, as there is high possibility of an entire household getting infected just from one person.
"Furthermore, the health department could engage its full manpower to conduct mass testing and vaccination in constituencies in a consecutive manner during the curfew, thereby completing the process in a span of 2-3 days.
As there is an advisory in place that positive people can get vaccinated 3 months after recovery, pre-testing should be made compulsory before getting vaccinated.
If there is any fatality resulting from getting vaccinated, a medical expert team should be constituted to investigate the same," the Task Force suggested, while contending that testing should be made the first priority and vaccination the second priority for curbing the pandemic.
