Imphal, February 24 2019:
Health and Family Welfare and AYUSH Minister L Jayantakumar has conveyed that if people take up proper steps to conserve and utilise the natural resources of the State, the economy of the State will improve considerably.
He made the statement as the chief guest during a one day conference on 'Promotion of Herbal Garden and Upliftment of Economy of the State through Agar Plantation, Scientific Inoculation, Processing and Marketing', which was conducted at Hotel Classic Grande yesterday.
Speaking at the event, the Minister urged all the experts to share the knowledge about herbal medicine and agar plantation to the people.
On the other hand, YAS and Water Resources Minister Letpao Haokip said that the initiative to plant medicinal and aromatic plants will greatly benefit the State and added that if the space for a herbal garden is required, necessary land will be provided at Chandel district.
AYUSH Director Dr A Guneshore Sharma said that even though agar is well suited to Manipur soil, it is not cultivated in a widespread manner mainly because of the time it takes to reach maturity (around 15 years) as well as the stringent need for inoculation by certain micro-organism to create the particular aroma/smell of agar.
The event, which was organised by Manipur State Medicinal Plants Board and State AYUSH Society under the aegis of Directorate of AYUSH, was also attended by MLAs L Rameshore, N Indrajit and Asabuddin as guests of honour.
