9th Loktak Arson Commemoration Day observed

The 9th Loktak Arson Commemoration Day 2020 was observed today at Champu Khangpok Floating Village, Loktak.
The day was observed as a mark to remember the inhumane act that was allegedly carried out by Loktak Development Authority (LDA) in alliance with agencies of the Manipur Government from 15th to 23rd November 2011.Fishers of the Loktak Ema were allegedly harassed with the use of machinery to destroy houses, burned prized possessions to ashes, fishing equipment and gears were destroyed and burned everything including student's books, school uniforms, certificates, etc amidst the cold winter days.
All Loktak Lake Areas Fishermen's Union, Manipur (ALLAFUM) organised the commemoration programme by praying to the Loktak goddess.
President ALLAFUM, Kh Deven gave the welcome and keynote address to the villagers and observed 2 minutes silence along with the villagers.
Kh Deven stated that kids who had experienced the inhumane incident are still traumatised by the memories of that day.
Who would ever feel content when their houses are burned down, he asked.
The villagers prayed to Loktak Lairembee so that such inhumane incidents do not repeat in the future and the villagers took a pledge to stand together to fight against anything that would harm the life and livelihood of the Nga-mees.
