Imphal, December 19 2014 :
MLA of Andro Constituency, Shyamkumar while raising a calling attention motion in the State Assembly session today lamented that the Mongken Government Junior Boys School under Henglep sub-division in Churachandpur district is devoid of any teacher to teach students.
MLA Shyamkumar said that Mongken village is a backward area with no electricity and potable water leading its residents to reel under intense difficulties in coping day to day life while stressing the need for addressing the present pitiable condition of Mongken Government Junior Boys School at the earliest.
Stating that many schools in hills are facing shortage of teachers thereby affecting smooth conduct of classes in the schools, he asserted that appointment of teachers in schools situated in hills should be done by giving preference to qualified locals.
Replying to the calling attention motion, Deputy Chief Minister who also holds the charge of Tribal Affairs & Hills said that there are 944 schools with 7398 teachers under District Council and informed the House that teachers in the schools under District Council are mainly locals.
However, many of teachers are showing reluctance to attend the schools despite situated nearby their localities, the Dy CM admitted.
Ensuring that the government would look into the condition of Mongken Government Junior Boys School, Gaikhangam said that there is a policy of transferring teachers from schools where there are fewer students to schools where there are large number of students.
