Imphal, September 19, 2012:
The proscribed outfit PREPAK (Progressive) has out-rightly denied newspaper report that Takhellambam Govin (30) s/o Dara Singh of Takhel Mamang Leikai was one of its members.
A PREPAK (Pro) statement issued by its senior publicity officer (Dept of Publicity & Propaganda) Boby Mangang also rejected newspaper report about the victim being a PREPAK (Pro) surrenderee to IG Assam Rifles (S).
Apart from refuting reports that Govin, slain by Imphal East police commandos on September 17 at an area under Lamlai police station, was a member of the outfit, the statement also clarified that PREPAK (Pro) had no one by the name of Takhellambam Govin, and thus the individual being a surrenderee to the Mantripukhri-based IGAR(S) does not arise.
Firmly rejecting the claim by the victim's family members that Govin was a PREPAK (Pro) surrenderee, the senior publicity officer cautioned all concerned, specially parents of rogue elements, against dragging the name of revolutionaries with malicious intent or for some financial gains.
Further stating that surrenderees would only add to miseries of the common people for reports have been published about such elements indulging in extortion, drug smuggling, sexually assaulting womenfolk and carrying out secret killings at the behest of security forces, Boby regretted that some parents do not hesitate in carrying forth security forces' agenda of maligning image of insurgent groups.
Those who deviate from the part of revolutionary movement and surrender before the Government will certainly regret the decision as rehabilitation or resettlement packages would never be translated into action.
The Government's call for surrender is a ploy of the Chief Minister to remain in the good books of the Central Government, he added.
