Imphal, September 16 2020:
The Federation of Haomee has demanded the Government to fill up the inadequate doctors, staff and equipment in the Ukhrul District Hospital by September 20, failing which a 'bandh' will be called from the following day on Ukhrul roads.
The Ukhrul District Hospital has only 15 doctors and 17 nurses.
The people of Ukhrul have been demanding to provide surgeons, anesthetists, sonologists, orthopedists and set up blood banks and other facilities for emergency services for a long time.
However, there has been no response from the Government, Federation of Haomee said in a release.
"Due to unavailability of doctors at the Ukhrul hospital, emergency patients have to travel around 80 Kilometers to Imphal on the hill terrain.
Many have died on the way," it said.
"The building is not enough.
It needs doctors, nurses, staff and equipment," it added.
