Farmers' training held at Senapati

One day Farmers' Scientist interaction programme and distribution of Agricultural inputs was held today at Daili Village, Kangpokpi Sub-division.
Inaugurating the programme, Deputy Commissioner of Senapati, PK Jha also distributed critical agricultural inputs required for growing high yielding paddy varieties to more than 90 farmers of Kangpokpi Sub-division.
The District Agriculture Officer Senapati, M Gojendra Singh and his team of extension personnel have taken up an ambitious program for varietal replacement of high yielding paddy varieties in the district by providing new varieties released by the State Varieties Release Committee namely 'Leima Phou (variety developed at the Rice Research Station Wangbal)', 'Tampha Phou(CAU-R1 developed at the Central Agriculture University, Eroishamba)', and RCM-9, and RCM-10 developed at the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) Lamphelpat.
The programme was being taken up under the National Food Security Mission (Rice) in the district during this current Kharif season with an objective to provide food security to the people of the country by increasing the productivity level of rice by providing quality seeds and also by providing assistance to the farmers in the purchase of agricultural inputs/equipments required in the production of rice.
While distributing the agricultural inputs to the farmers, the Deputy Commissioner informed the farmers to avail the necessary technical assistance from the Subject Matter Specialist and take up scientific method of cultivation by way of using improved Agri-implements wherever possible in place of the scarce human labourers so that the cost of cultivation is brought down to certain extent and increase the profit margin of Rice cultivation.
He also insisted to shift to farm Mechanisation by using farm machinery like '8 Row Paddy Direct Seeder', 'Kono Weeder', 'Knapsack Sprayer' and 'Paddle Thresher' which can be obtained on subsidy from the Department.
Kh Nimaichand Singh, Officer-in-charge Plant health Clinic, Directorate of Agriculture Manipur interacted with the farmers and gave tips for protecting the crops from insect and pest and also management of the crop by using critical inputs during the life of the crop.
