Minister pleased with work progress

IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip has expressed his pleasure on seeing the work progress of Dolaithabi Barrage Project being constructed over Iril river at the junction of Senapati and Imphal East districts.
It is said that the project is now almost 71 per cent complete.
Ngamthang Haokip, together with relevant officials, today made a field assessment of the construction work.
The Minister's entourage also included Tengnoupal AC MLA D Korungthang.
The barrage which would stand 18 metres tall when completed would become the tallest barrage in the North East region.
Construction work of the barrage started way back in 1997 and its initial cost was Rs 18.86 crore.
Now the estimated cost of the project has jumped to Rs 360 crore.
Left main canal of the barrage which would be fitted with six gates would irrigate 2900 hectares and the right main canal is aimed at irrigating 4750 hectares.
Gross command area of the barrage is 7650 hectares and the barrage is targeted to double cropping facility within its command area.
Speaking to media persons after the inspection tour, IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip stated that construction work of the barrage has attained a momentum.
It is being targeted to complete the project by 85 per cent by March 2014 so that the project can be commissioned by March 2015, Ngamthang Haokip stated.
