Free cataract detection camp held

Directorate of Health Service in association with Shija Hospital and Research centre organised a one day free cataract detection camp at Churachandpur District Hospital today.
Out of 1200 people examined in the free cataract detection camp today, 127 cataract cases were detected.
Forty five out of these total 127 had pterygium growth in their eyes.
Shija Hospital offered free cataract removal operation for these detected cases in the hospital's phase-wise free cataract removal programme.
The hospital operates about 30 cataract cases every phase.
Giving the opening speech of the camp, Phungzathang Tonsing, Health and Family Welfare Minister spoke on the importance of eyes in human life.

He applauded the contribution of Shija Hospital and their selfless effort to cure cataract cases through their free cataract operation programmes.
He also appreciated the Hospital's initiative to provide free vitamin A tablets (imported from USA) to cataract patients.
The Minister lauded managing Director, Shija Hospital, Kh Palin and his staff for organising the camp.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Palin informed that about 3 per cent out of the total cases of blindness in India are caused by cataract.
The free cataract detection camp and such other camps under Shija Hospital, is an initiative taken up by the hospital to eradicate cataract caused blindness in Manipur.
PK Jha, IAS, DC Churachandpur and Dr A Bijoy, Director, Health Service, also attended the programme.
