38 hrs total shutdown at Jiri begins; mass protests against CAB affect normal life in different districts

A total shutdown of 38 hours called by MANPAC-Jiribam at Jiribam district against Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 has begun from this morning at 4 am onwards.
Though there is no report of any unwanted incidents so far, the shutdown has greatly affected normal lives at the district.
Govt offices, shops and other business establishments were shut and the road don a deserted looks due to the shutdown while Jiribam Police took up security measure to prevent any unwanted incidents from happening.
Speaking about the bandh, MANPAC-Jiri, convenor, W Dinesh Meitei stated that MANPAC is all gear up to launch several other agitation until the CAB is withdrawn.
Bishnupur: Normal functioning in Bishnupur district was also greatly affected as several irate protestors took out their protest demonstrations in various locations of the district against Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016, today.
Kumbi Keithel, Moirang Keithel, Ningthoukhong Keithel, Bishnupur Keithel, Oinam Keithel and Nambol Keithel, shops, schools, colleges and Govt offices in the district remained closed.
Passenger services in the district were stopped for the day but few private vehicles could be seen.
Endorsing the state-wide protest launched against CAB, Pole Star Club, Ithing, Ithing Sendra Chanura Meira Paibi Lup, Ithing Lisha Phal Group and Sendra Youth Club jointly organised a sit in protest at Ithing Khunjao, Thanga, today.
Sit in protests were also staged at Kumbi Keithel, Ningthoukhong Keithel and Keinou too.
A public rally was demonstrated at Nachou too against CAB with active participation from volunteers of NESDYA club and meira paibis and youth of the locality.
The rally started from Mini Bazar, Nachou and finished at Nachou Panthong.
Meanwhile, scores of people from Nambol sides formed a human chain from Maibam to Kodompokpi Lamkhai by raising several slogans against CAB.
Lakhipur: Denouncing the passing of Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 in Lok Sabha on January 8 despite strong opposition from the indigenous people of North East India, over 300 individuals took out a torch rally at Lakhipur Cachar today.
The rally was organised by All Assam Manipuri Students Union (AAMSU), Lakhipur district committee; UCO Lakhipur and Meira Paibis of the area.
Yairipok: A joint meeting held on February 3 which was attended by members of various organization, club and association from Yairipok area resolved to launch more intense form of agitation in support of the ongoing protest spearheaded by Joint Committee on People's Welfare, Yairipok against CAB, 2016, said the new secretary of the committee, Jemson Akoijam.
In support of the protest against CAB, members of the committee forced shut down all the local shops and prevented women vendors from selling their products in and around Yairipok Bazar.
In other words, Yairipok Bazar wore a deserted look during the joint protest spearheaded by the committee.
Later, a sit-in protest was also staged with the support of women vegetable vendors of Yairipok Tampha Keithel and Yairipok New Market at Yairipok Bazar.
It has been reported that more intensified agitation is likely to stage on February 12 by the women vendor and members of Joint Committee on People's Welfare Yairipok.
Moijing: Public of Thoubal Moijing also staged sit-in protest at Moijing Lamkhai today in support of the ongoing protest against the passing of Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 in the Lok Sabha spearheaded by MANPAC in different parts of Manipur.
Placards which read as "No CAB in North East region of India", "Down Down BJP" and "Long live Manipur" were used during the sit-in protest.
Meanwhile, massive protest were erupted in different parts of Thoubal district against the Citizenship Amendment Bill today, in which main road were blocked halfway with the hoisting of black flag followed by burning of effigies amidst mass sit-in protests, that has disturbed the normal life in the district.
The protestors blocked MI road at Luxmi bazar in Thoubal Ningombam while SCEASDO Heirok, with support of public of Heirok, blocked road at Heirok market.
The protestors also burnt effigies of Prime Minister and Chief Minister to show their dissent against the Bill.
The protests against CAB was also held at Wangjing market where women vendors along with the public blocked National Higjway at Wangjing bridge.
Public of Kiyam Siphai Khundongbam took their protests at National Highway and put restriction on the movement of vehicles.
Road were also blocked halfway at Lilong Usoipokpi in protest against CAB.
Wangkhem: Extending their support to the ongoing mass protest against CAB, a general body meeting of Health Care Wangkhem in Thoubal District held at the office of Health Care and Multipurpose Hall Management Society Wangkhem resolved to participate in all sorts of agitation initiated by the various CSOs of the State against the CAB, 2016.Apart from their decision to support the ongoing agitation against CAB, the meeting also resolved to conduct health camp and awareness programme 2/3 times in a year for the public of Wangkhem so that the benefits of health camp can be reaped by the villagers, said a statement released by secretary Dijen Meitei.
Taking part in the sit-in protest organised by All Manipur Muslim Development Committee (AMMDC) under the aegis of MANPAC against the CAB, one member of Chingkham Kabui Women Association said that Kabui community also fully support the ongoing agitation against CAB.
Imphal East: The mass protest against CAB was staged in Yaingangpokpi bazar, Lamlai Challou bazar, Nongada, Kameng, Khunjao among others.
