National seminar on UGC's API

A one-day national seminar on UGC Regulations on API: Methods and Procedures was held today at the Jubilee Hall of Imphal College.
The seminar was organised by Federation of Govt College Teachers' Associations (FEGOCTA) in collaboration with Imphal College and NG College under the sponsorship of Department of Higher Education, Govt of Manipur.
Chief guest of the inaugural programme, Prof N Irabanta Singh, Dean, School of Life Sciences, MU stressed the need to work out ways and means to implement the Academic Performance Indicator (API) effectively in the State.
In his keynote address, Dr N Somorendro Singh, Convenor of the seminar said that there has been lack of transparency in the implementation of API by Manipur Govt for the direct recruitment of college principals leading to controversy.
He said that there is no clarity on when the UGC regulations on API would be applicable to the existing teachers for their placement or promotion under Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) .
The absence of regular Principals and regular Director from the teaching fraternity has disastrous effect in the standard and any parameter of excellence in higher education in the State, Dr Somorendro said observed.
He added that the seminar assumed significance as API is a new regulation and transparent process of the its implementation could bring qualitative transformation in higher education in the State and the country.
Prof E Bijoykumar Singh, Dean SSS and Director, IQAC, Manipur University; Prof Niranjan Roy, Dept of Economics, Former Director IQAC and DIQA Assam University, Silchar; RC Hamom; Principal Imphal College; Dr Biren Das, Registrar, Tejpur University and L Randhoni Devi, President, FEGOCTA were also present during the programme.
