'DM College to be upgraded into a deemed University'

From the current academic year, the State Government is considering to give financial assistance of Rs 20 lakh each to three selected colleges showing excellent performance and having a good number of students from amongst the various private, aided and government colleges in the State.
This was disclosed by Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro Singh while speaking on the occasion of Annual Guru Pujah organized under the aegis of DM College Alumni Association at the central hall of DM College of Science here today.
The Minister further stated that DM College, which is one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges in the State and has produced a number of excellent students in the past, is all set to be transformed into a deemed university in due course of time.
"This is a dream not just of the people but also of the Government, and it is expected to be realized very soon", the Minister said.
While appealing to the concerned authorities of DM College to conduct the foundation day of its science, arts and commerce section in the newly constructed hall, the Education Minister observed that the State Government is planning to take up all the necessary developmental programmes in the College.
The Minister informed that an amount of Rs 40 lakh has been allotted to convert the hall situated near the western gate of the college into a Guest House and the construction process is being targeted to be completed within this year.
"With its completion, teachers from outside the State coming to participate in any of the academic programmes conducted in the College would not have any problem for lodging/accommodation", the Minister hoped.
Presided over by Dr S Chaoba of DM College Alumni Association, the Annual Guru Pujah was also graced by MLA T Mangibabu as Guest of Honour.
On the occasion, three former Principals of DM College of Commerce namely Nilbir Sairem, K Biren, and Dr L Nila were honoured.
Senior advocate Ch Nodiachand, ex-President of DM College Alumni Association; P Ranbir, Principal of DM College of Science; Dr P Nungsitombi, Principal of DM College of Arts and Ng Prajagopal, Principal of DM College of Commerce were also present on the occasion as presidium members.
