Imphal, November 09 2020:
The traffic rush is a nightmare, more so with Ningol Chakkouba fast approaching and making things worse are the potholed roads dotting the landscape of Imphal city.
One example that stands out glaringly is the Nagamapal road, particularly the stretch from Khoyathong traffic point to Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak.
The rain that lashed Imphal just a couple of days back has only made things worse and a drive through this route is a nightmare.
The black toppings on the road have worn out at many places on this route and it is not surprising to see the potholes filled with muddy water when it rains.
Such potholes can be dicey for the motorists, more particularly the two wheeler riders as no one can fathom how deep the potholes are, endangering all motorists.
When it doesn't rain, then it is a matter of dusts swirling all over, greatly inconveniencing the motorists and the shop keepers along this route.
Things will only get worse when the autorickshaws return.
Traffic jam, dust when it doesn't rain and slush when it rains and potholes have become the identifying mark of this road.
The road from the Uripok traffic island till RIMS is in the same condition.
Though there are less number of potholes here when compared with the Nagamapal road, a ride through this road stretch is still a nightmare.
The state of Dingku Road in front of ISBT is also in a deplorable state with heavy vehicles fully loaded with goods making things worse.
Situation started deteriorating once the Covid induced lockdown was clamped in March with trucks made to head for ISBT.
The roads from Kwakeithel till Khagempalli and the roads in Thangmeiband area are no exception.
If these conditions prevail in Imphal City the dream to become a Smart city is a far cry.
