Imphal, September 05 2021:
The Peoples' Task Force for COVID-19 (PTFC-19) has drew the attention of the Government regarding the impending COVID-19 third wave which has been predicted by many experts.
In a statement issued today, PTFC questioned the Government on when and how the third wave will hit the State and if it will be a result of a new variant of the virus which has mutated in the State or if it will be because of a new variant that has been transmitted from other States.
PTFC also raised the question if the preparation which the Government claimed to have taken up to face the third wave will be enough to counter the third wave effectively including a possible case where the origin of a new wave is supposedly from other States.
The statement also appealed to the Government to make the steps taken up by the Government to counter the third wave public.
PTFC-19 also appealed to the Government to ramp up surveillance at entry points to the State at Mao, Jiribam, Imphal International Airport and other entry points to prevent new variants from causing havoc in the State.
Citing that the number of Covid tests has been very low since the last 3-4 days, PTFC asked the Government if the low positive rate has been the result of lack of adequate testing.
PTFC-19 also called the Government on why plans to open schools, colleges and other educational institutes have been taken up despite the experts warning the Nation about a third wave during the months of September-November which will possibly affect youths and children more.
''Have appropriate SOP mechanism to be followed by students, teachers and staff alike, when the educational institutes open, be framed?", asked PTFC-19 in the statement.
Even though the Government has framed SOP and guidelines to be followed in order to curb the spread of the virus, there have been instance where the SOP have been flouted by the Government itself on more than one occasion, this should be put into check as the Government should an example to the public to be followed, said PTFC-19 in the statement.
