Imphal, May 05 2011:
Rengpang power sub-station which was inaugurated last year is still in a defunct state and the Zliangrong Baudi, Luangba Zone has sought an explanation from
the government.
The Baudi said that the matter has already been brought to the notice of the government but till date no positive steps have taken to make the sub-station functional after having been inaugurated.
The Baudi had conducted a spot verification of the government's developmental works and came across the defunct sub-station, said a statement signed by its convener K Gaiphun.
During the spot verification, they found abandoned construction works of police barracks, kitchens, water tanks at Nungba sub-divisional HQ.
The work undertaken by the Manipur Police Housing Corporation was also not executed as per specifications.
They further found no proper toilets for security personnel posted at the station.
The local labourers who were engaged during construction are yet to be paid their due labour wages from Ch Premchand Singh and Chandramani Singh, who are sub-contractors for Keibamdi Panmei, special contractor although it is learnt that all bills for the work have been withdrawn.
The statement of the ZB makes it clear that it is a serious crime committed by the contractors against the helpless labourers.
The ZB's statement warns the contractors to complete the works at the earliest and to also pay the wages of the labourers.
They drew the attention of the authority concerned to take appropriate action against the default contractors.
