75th birth anniversary of writer Kartik Maiba observed

The 75th birth anniversary of Kartik Maiba, the first reknowned writer from Tentha village, was observed today at the Tentha Multiplex in Tentha Khongbal, Thoubal district, today.
In the year 1971, Kartik Maiba wrote a book of poem called "Leikhal Khara" which earned him recognition, becoming the pioneer writer from Tentha village.
Contributing to Manipuri language and the field of literature, he had penned 10 books, some of which worth mentioning are - Ahingbabu Ki, Meetei Ningthourel, Tentha Khundarol, Hare Hare Yaiphare Yaiphare and Kangleipakki Sagei Salairol.
During the programme, eminent critic Ibosana Yambem spoke on his (Kartik's) work "Leikhal Khara" while critic Bhorot Sanasam spoke on his work "Hare Hare Yaiphare Yaiphare" .
Speaking on the works and achievements of Kartik Maiba, acclaimed writer Moirangthem Rajendra said that Kartik Maiba is the founder president of Sahitya Yokhat Kanglup Tentha and Khorirol Sandoklup.
He also served as the president of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Masha Wangjing.
His works have received recognition and awards including 2 awards conferred by the Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Akademi, the Ibotomba Ningshing Sebak Mana by Khorirol Sandoklup Wangjing, Pacha Meetei Literary Award by Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur, Person of the Year award by the Geographical Society of Tentha, First Poet of Tentha award by Ehouhou Khinjel Tentha and the Lifetime Achievement Award by Sahitya Yokhat Kanglup Tentha.
As part of the programme, poems from the books Leikhal Khara and Ahingbabu Ki by Kartik were recited by the guests and poets attending the event.
Today's function was attended by former Art & Cultural Minister Dr Moirangthem Nara Singh, retd District Medical Officer Naorem Landhon Singh and retd teacher Moirangthem Ibopishak Singh as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively, along with many reknowned poets and writers.
