Plight of kids with HIV discussed

About 2,000 children are living with HIV/AIDS in the State, said Manipur Aids Control Board Society (MACS) Director Mongjam Abhiram today.
Care Foundation, Accelerate Project under the sponsorship of Atharvani Global Foundation, Pune was distributing dry ration kits for HIV positive children of Imphal East and Imphal West districts at New Checkon when he made the statement.
Lauding the Care Foundation for looking after the orphan HIV positive children, the Director, MACS said the society is also taking up efforts to assist HIV positive children of Imphal East, Imphal West, Churachandpur and Chandel districts.
Under the initiative, MACS will provide antiretroviral therapy (ART) and assess the health status of the children, he said adding the society will also assist in providing education to the children.
According to data available with the MACS, there are about 2,000 children living with HIV/AIDS in the State.
However, data shows that only about 600 children are receiving ART, he added.
Health Minister L Jayantakumar, who was also present at the event, lauded the Care Foundation for providing the ration kits to the children amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The children should be looked after and assisted with all possible help, he said.
