Manipuri theatre centenary celebration concludes

A concluding event of the celebration of centenary of Manipuri Theatre was held on December 31 at Assam Sahitya Sabha complex near Emoinu Food Hut in Silchar, Assam under the aegis of the Manipuri Theatre Centre, Assam.
The event was graced by L Harilal Singh, Assistant Director, Handlooms and Textiles, Government of Assam, Wangjam Brajabashi, social worker, Kabrabam Ongbi Anita, Zila Parishad Member, Lakhipur and IS Thingom, advisor, MTCA as guests and functional president respectively.
Members of MTCA also presented a drama - "Sumna Charaba Laibakni" during a drama competition.
Many young artistes from across the region took part in the drama competition.
A discussion on" Journey of centenary celebration of Manipuri Theatre in Assam" was held where Dr Yengkhom Medhajit presented research papers.
Ngangom Biswajyoti and S Archana stood first and second position in the drama competition.
They were honoured with cash awards and trophies.
The event was also attended by many distinguished persons of the region including Saikhom Kamlakanta, chairman, COCPIN, Dr H Rajmani, AAMSU president P Nilkanta, Advocate Ng Ramakanta, theatre activist Somor Luwang, Dr Kunjalal Yendrembam and Adv Phanjoubam Lokenath.
It may be noted that the journey of Manipuri theatre in Assam was started in 1918 and it completed its 100 years in 2018 .
