ATSUM slams Govt

Strongly reactimg against the re-drafting of the MLR & LR Act, All Tribal Students' union Manipur (ATSUM) today emphasized that just for the sake of development, the Government will not be allowed to act as per its whims and fancy while adding that Tribal customary law and land use sysytem has to be respected.
Emboi Serto, President ATSUM lamented that Governments is re-drafting the MLR & LR Act whereby 'our ancestral land is being seen as land which can be bought and encroached by Government at its own will before pointing out that the Moreh case where 3000 acre is being planned for construction of a new modern township.
The Government policy for not consulting the HAC and tribal people will not be tolerated said Emboi Serto.
He adds , the new land Use Policy implemented in Mizoram cannot be implemented in Manipur.
In meantime, ATSUM chief wants the Tribal people to be very vigilant before adding the Joint Forest Management and Reserved Forest Policy where we are paid some few lakhs is a hindrance to our ancestral land use system.
