International Overdose Awareness Day observed

Social Awareness Service Organisation (SASO) observed International Overdose Awareness Day at Panchayat Bhavan DC Complex, Porompat, Imphal today.
Speaking at the event, Imphal East SDM Samim A Shah said that the International Overdose Awareness Day is observed globally on August 31 every year.
It is a campaign that works towards preventing overdose, reducing the stigma associated with it, and providing support to families and loved ones of overdose victims, he said.
More than 1,90,900 people have died due to overdose according to data available, he said.
According to data with the SASO, the number of overdose case in Manipur between April 1, 2016 and August 20, 2019 is 381 including 11 death cases.
Imphal West recorded the highest number of overdose cases at 212, while Imphal East recorded 142 cases.
Jiribam recorded 6, Kakching - 6, Ukhrul - 8, Churachandpur - 1, Bishnupur- 1 and Kangpokpi - 2, he said.
Imphal East CMO Dr Kh Indra, Imphal East SDO Dr N Romila and MACS joint director Abhiram Mongjam attended the event.
