Students deprived of Mid-Day Meal

Steaming cooked foods served at the Government schools, for students who are in Classes I-VIII as their basic educational rights through SSA project as mid-day meal has not been given for three months in Ukhrul district.
In a brief interaction with executive members of Ukhrul District Teachers Welfare Association (UDTWA) today at Tangrei, Ukhrul, president UDWTA, Wungnaoshang said that in spite of their repeated appraisal and demand for release of third quarter mid-day meal for the district and conversion costs to the Nodal officer, Ukhrul, there has been no action from the Govt till date.
311 schools with more than 9000 students are denied their basic rights since September while conversion costs from the beginning of the year has not been released, said Wungnaoshang.
He further alleged that the free text books supposed to be provided under SSA project for students reading in Classes I -VIII have not been issued till date.
Secretary UDTWA, Songayam said the rate fixed for purchase of student uniform which Rs 400 per student is not sufficient and manageable due to rise in prices.
He further said that the State Govt is yet to release monthly honorarium for 12 months.
Usually all pending dues are released before November so that the next academic session can run smoothly, he added.
